Tenon Builders started when two co-workers shared a feeling that there had to be a better way of doing construction. What began as a working relationship turned into a friendship, and eventually, a decision to build something of their own. A company that values a different kind of experience: one where the process feels just as good as the finished result.
Our name comes from the mortise and tenon joint - a simple, time-tested woodworking connection that creates something incredibly strong and lasting.
It’s a small detail, but it says everything about how we work. Thoughtful planning. Precision. Pieces that fit together the right way.
It’s also how we think about our relationships with our clients, our team, and our partners. When everything is aligned, the result is solid, seamless, and built to last.
Meet the Founders
Gary Leonard
Gary owned and operated his own carpentry business in Boston for 10 years before making the move to Colorado to enjoy the outdoors and a slower pace of life. He worked primarily in the affluent towns surrounding Boston on high end residential construction. He got his foot in the door in Colorado as Project Manager at a design/build firm in Denver.
As Construction Lead, he ensures every phase of building is executed with care and intention. For clients, he’s a steady, knowledgeable presence on-site, the one making sure what’s being built lives up to what was promised.
Gary is originally from Ireland and moved to America in 2011. In his spare time he enjoys skiing, playing hurling, being with friends and getting into the mountains.
Mike Anderson
Mike started his career in a custom cabinet shop, which kick started his love for construction. He moved into the design/build remodeling world where he thrived building systems and striving to make things more efficient.
As Operations Lead, his focus is on creating a seamless experience from start to finish—clear communication, thoughtful planning, disciplined execution. He understands that a successful project isn’t just about what gets built, but how clearly it’s planned and managed—so timelines hold, budgets stay on track, and nothing slips through the cracks.
Mike is from Canada originally. He loves spending time with his family and taking advantage of beautiful Colorado in his free time - trail running, skiing and hiking.
